Boredom and review

Fri Aug 7, 2009, 4:49 AM
  • Mood: Not Impressed
  • Listening to: D'espairsRay discography
  • Drinking: Redd's
I'm bored out of my mind recently. Nothing's happening during holidays >_< I even haven't got anything interesting to upload. Should take some photos soon.

Even though nobody reads my journal well... this is an attempt at writing the review from the D'espairsRay concert:

To be honest it did not start well. My friend and I went out from home too late, had problems during trip and I thought we would not get to the club on time. To my surprise people still stood before the gate when we arrived. It turned out the concert was postponed unaccountably about an hour. Moreover, it started to rain but luckily we were able to get inside before it turned into downpour.
We had not to wait so long for D’espairsRay members because it took us a little time to prepare ourselves. A few minutes after 9 p.m. I finally had an opportunity to see one of the first Japanese bands I had listened for a long time. They began with “Lizard” and “Redeemer” from their newest album. While they were playing the first track I managed to appear nearby them in the third row in the front of bassist Zero from where I had an ideal view on everything what was happening on the stage and musicians themselves. Despite of having rather small place to move both Karyu and Zero were everywhere even they sometimes switched the sides which always caused great enthusiasm on the one they appeared to. I had to admit I hadn’t paid so much attention to Zero before but then I just could not wrench my eyes away from him at particular moments! He smiled all the time was looking at the crowd and often approached the edge of the stage to encourage us to louder behaviour. But Hizumi and Karyu also did not stay behind. Although Zero attracted much more attention. People standing in the first row had even got a chance not to catch a pick but to take it out from Zero’s mouth.
In the middle of the concert happened something which is not popular nowadays on gigs. Namely guitar battle! It was the best way to see differences between playing on electric guitar and bass guitar as well as variations in the sound. The audience liked Karyu’s solos more because he got louder applause. Even though bass solos were also wonderful. In the end I had an ability to admire his bass playing skills. Later Hizumi introduced the members and that time we could hear Tsukasa’s drum solo.
As for the music itself the setlist was just perfect in my opinion! It contained tracks from new album as well as from the older ones and also some B-side songs from singles like “Bullet” or “Cocoon”. This gave a great image how their music had evolved during years maintaining that remarkable character at the same time. What is more, it allowed people who were not into the new stuff to enjoy the concert too. And playing the slower songs after the faster ones gave the audience a little bit of respite. Especially since it was so hot back then but it only fuelled the atmosphere.
However, the best part of the show was an encore. After a quite long calling out the band on stage appeared Tsukasa with a flute! The melody he performed surely touched everybody’s hearts. It was like the gust of fresh wind in a sweltering day. Unexpected, different from previous sounds and painfully short. Afterwards the rest of the members went out and Hizumi was carrying the Polish Flag in his hands! He hung it up to the microphone and told a few words in our language! Even Karyu added something from himself. As it was easy to imagine the audience gained new energy which was used up on the last song “Mirror”. All people was jumping and singing along with Hizumi who was waving the flag above the crowd like a freedom fighter.
To sum up, I do not regret attending this concert it was even better than I have imagined! Wonderful contact with the audience, guitar battle, encore and real happiness of the band that they could play for us. All of this has made the gig of D’espairsRay in Gdynia the best one I have had so far.

I know I should practise writing such things but I haven't written anything in English for two years. Wow the time surely passes.
